Killswitch Engage, 3 Doors Down Lead Veteran Debuts on Rock Albums Charts

Killswitch Engage opens at No. 1 on Top Rock Albums and Hard Rock Albums, while 3 Doors Down starts atop Alternative Albums.

Two veteran bands show the newbies how it’s done, as Killswitch Engage and 3 Doors Down debut at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, on Top Rock Albums.

The former also takes the No. 1 spot on Hard Rock Albums and the latter crowns Alternative Albums.

Killswitch Engage’s Incarnate, the metalcore act’s seventh studio album, debuts with 33,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen Music. The set follows 2013’s No. 1 Disarm the Decent (which launched with 48,000) and also becomes the group’s third topper on Hard Rock Albums, dating to its 2009 self-titled set (58,000).

On the Billboard 200, Incarnate slots in at No. 6, marking the act’s highest career rank, besting a pair of No. 7 hits (Disarm the Decent and 2009’s Killswitch Engage). “Hate by Design,” the new album’s lead single, has reached No. 33 on Mainstream Rock Songs.

Incarnate is the second album from Killswitch Engage since the return of original lead vocalist Jesse Leach, who left the band in 2002 and was replaced by Howard Jones, who logged a 10-year stint with the group before Leach’s return.

Meanwhile, 3 Doors Down’s Us and the Night, the band’s first album of new material since 2011, starts with 24,000 copies sold. The set’s No. 1 debut on Alternative Albums marks the quintet’s third leader, after 2008’s eponymous effort (154,000) and 2011’s Time of My Life (60,000).

The new record’s lead single, “In the Dark,” has reached No. 2 on Mainstream Rock Songs, the band’s highest peak on the airplay chart since 2008’s three-week No. 1 “It’s Not My Time.”

As for the other three top 10 debuts on Top Rock Albums this week, The Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon’s debut solo set Painkillers starts at No. 3 with 14,000 sold, followed by Jeff Buckley‘s You and I (No. 5, 9,000; it’s also No. 1 on Folk Albums) and Pete Yorn‘s Arranging Time (No. 7, 8,000).
