Houston-based trio Khruangbin re-enters Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart (dated Feb. 22) at No. 1 to become the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time, thanks to the group’s new EP, Texas Sun, with Leon Bridges.

The set debuts at No. 1 on Americana/Folk Albums, No. 2 on Vinyl Albums, No. 4 on Top Rock Albums and No. 6 on Top R&B Albums with 12,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

The EP’s title-track lead single rises 20-19 on the Adult Alternative Songs radio airplay chart and re-enters the multi-metric Hot Rock Songs survey at No. 20, both marking new peaks.

Khruangbin (which essentially translates to “airplane” in Thai) previously reached Billboard‘s charts with its 2018 album Con Todo El Mundo and 2019 set Hasta El Cielo, which hit Nos. 11 and 15 on Vinyl Albums, respectively. Khruangbin previously spent one week on Emerging Artists last July, at No. 21, when Hasta El Cielo made its chart debut.

Khruangbin dethrones Trevor Daniel atop Emerging Artists, as the latter graduates from the chart as his breakout single “Falling” reaches the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100 (27-25).

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard‘s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

Among other Emerging Artists moves, The Lone Bellow re-enters at No. 4 as its new album Half Moon Light arrives at No. 4 on Americana/Folk Albums (6,000 units); Spanish Love Songs make their Billboard chart debut, opening at No. 27, sparked by the arrival of their album Brave Faces Everyone (2,000 copies sold); and Surfaces debut at No. 32 as the duo’s Where the Light Is reaches the Heatseekers Albums top 10 (12-10; 4,000 sold, up 25%).
