Kehlani’s ‘While We Wait’ Debuts at No. 1 On Top R&B Albums Chart

Kehlani claims her second No. 1 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart with 'While We Wait'. The nine-track mixtape earned 34,000 equivalent album units in the week.

Kehlani claims her second No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart as While We Wait starts atop the ranking dated March 9. The nine-track mixtape earned 34,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 28, according to Nielsen Music.

The singer-songwriter first led the chart with 2017’s SweetSexySavage, which reigned for one week that February. In addition to her two chart-topping sets, she’s banked a third entry: 2015’s You Should Be Here, which peaked at No. 2 that May.

Wait simultaneously debuts at No. 5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and, as previously reported, No. 9 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

As Wait debuts, six of the mixtape’s cuts arrive on the Hot R&B Songs chart, led by the No. 13 entrance of “Nunya,” featuring Dom Kennedy.

Here’s a rundown of Kehlani’s new arrivals to the list:

No. 13, “Nunya,” featuring Dom Kennedy
No. 16, “Feels”
No. 17, “Footsteps,” featuring Musiq Soulchild
No. 20, “RPG,” featuring 6lack
No. 22, “Too Deep”
No. 24, “Morning Glory”

Beyond the six new starters, the project’s lead single “Nights Like This,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, reaches a new peak with a 5-4 climb. The track is already Kehlani’s best showing on the chart, topping the No. 6 high of “Gangsta” in 2016.

“Nights” also continues its ascent on other Billboard rankings. The collaboration rises 34-32 in its fourth week on the Rhythmic Songs airplay chart and boasts a 23 percent surge in plays in the week ending March 3, according to Nielsen Music.

It also climbs 72-67 on the Billboard Hot 100, helped by a 7 percent gain to 10.3 million U.S. streams in the week ending Feb. 28, the first time the song has crossed the eight-digit mark in a single week.
