Kaskade & Deadmau5’s Kx5 Tops Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart With ‘Escape’

Plus, moves for Joel Corry, David Guetta & Bryson Tiller, Elton John & Dua Lipa and Becky Hill & Ella Henderson.

Kx5 completes its ascent to the summit of Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated April 23) with “Escape,” featuring Hayla. It’s the first leader for Kx5 – superstar DJ/producers Kaskade and Deadmau5 – under that billing, as well as singer Hayla’s first.

“Escape” is the fourth No. 1 each for Kaskade and Deadmau5, and coincidentally the first for each since 2010. Of those, the DJs tallied two toppers together: “Move for Me” (No. 1 for two weeks, 2008) and “I Remember” (two, 2009). Kaskade also led with “Dynasty,” featuring Haley (2010), while Deadmau5 reigned with “Ghosts ‘N Stuff,” featuring Rob Swire (2010).

“Escape” is collecting core-dance airplay on leaders KMVQ-HD2 San Francisco, Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel and WZFL (Revolution 93.5) Miami, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. (The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, along with plays during mix shows on nearly 80 top 40-formatted reporters.)

Additionally on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, Joel Corry, David Guetta and Bryson Tiller advance into the top 10 with “What Would You Do?” (13-7). Corry’s seventh top 10 and Tiller’s second, “What,” is Guetta’s record-extending 32nd top 10, dating to the chart’s August 2003 inception. (Rihanna is next with 24.) In addition to the stations listed above, “What” is drawing core-dance play on iHeartRadio’s Evolution Network, iHeartRadio’s Pride Radio and KQPS (Channel Q) Palm Springs, Calif.

Shifting to the multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, Elton John and Dua Lipa add a 27th week on top with “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix).” The track is now tied with the The Chainsmokers’ 2016-17 smash “Closer,” featuring Halsey, for the third-most weeks at No. 1 in the chart’s nine-year history. It’s outpaced only by Marshmello and Bastille’s “Happier” (69 weeks, 2018-20) and Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey ‘s “The Middle” (33 weeks, 2018).

“Heart” earned 9.5 million U.S. streams, 27.5 million radio airplay audience impressions and sold 5,300 downloads in the April 8-14 tracking week. The track also logs its 35th week at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, the most since that list’s 2010 start. (“Happier” follows, with 32). It adds its 23rd week atop Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs; it previously led Dance/Mix Show Airplay for 14 frames, in October-January.

Also on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Guetta, Becky Hill and Ella Henderson’s “Crazy What Love Can Do” debuts at No. 12. It’s Guetta’s leading 64th charted title (ahead of Kygo with 55), Hill’s 13th and Henderson’s fifth. “Crazy” corralled 1.5 million U.S. streams and sold 600 downloads in the tracking week, also good for a No. 6 start on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales.
