Welcome back to Billboard’s weekly video show “Real-Time Rewind,” which recaps the past week’s hottest action on the Billboard Real-Time Twitter Charts —Trending 140 and Emerging Artists — and the news that’s driving the action. So what happened on the Real-Time Charts this week?
Kanye West performed a surprise set during the Weekend‘s second Coachella headlining set on Saturday, April 18. ‘Ye performed a few songs including, “All Day,” which subsequently topped the Trending 140 the same night.
Record Store Day was on Saturday, also. Run The Jewels topped the chart with “Bust No Moves,” a new tracked included in a limited edition 12-inch picture disc they released on Record Store Day. It reached No. 1 on Saturday, and again on Sunday when the story was picked up by news outlets.
ACM Awards 2015: All the Performances Ranked Worst to Best
The Academy of Country Music Awards aired on CBS on Sunday, April. 19. Miranda Lambert hit No. 1 with “Automatic,” which won an ACM award for song of the year. Lee Brice also topped the chart with “I Don’t Dance,” which won single of the year. Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town also made appearances on the chart during the broadcast.
Chris Brown and Rihanna topped the Real-Time Charts with a track called “Put It Up,” an unreleased single that was to allegedly be included on Chris Brown’s Billboard 200 No. 1 album X.
Crystal Castles showed up on the Trending 140 with a new song called “Frail.” Ethan Kath released “Frail” under the name Crystal Castles, even though they broke up in late 2014. For the song’s description on SoundCloud he discredited former front woman, Alice Glass. Glass fired back on Twitter, calling the allegations manipulative. Glass also took the opportunity to alert Twitter followers that she will soon release solo material
The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
