Kanye West has rescheduled his Australia tour to work on his new studio album, tentatively due this year.
Live Nation Australasia reported the news on the morning of April 1, though reps for the concert promoter confirm its press release wasn’t an April Fools prank.
“Due to unexpected timing requirements to finish his highly anticipated new studio album, scheduled for a 2014 release, Kanye West regretfully announces the postponement of his upcoming tour dates in Australia,” the statement notes.
Billboard reported back in December 2013 that Kanye’s seventh album was a work-in-progress, with its release penciled-in for summer 2014.
Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus Tour’ Coming to Australia
His five city, seven-date tour of Australia was originally scheduled from May 2 to May 11, but will now be played from Sept. 5 to Sept. 15, according to the promoter. There’s no shortage of speculation that Kanye has actually moved those “Yeezus” shows to accommodate his wedding with Kim Kardashian.
The artist’s planned run of summer U.K. and European festivals will go ahead as planned, and the rapper is ”looking forward to returning to the U.K.. and Europe for a full tour in January 2015,” according to LN.
Kanye West’s ‘The College Dropout’: An Oral History
Kanye’s sixth studio album “Yeezus” made it to No. 1 in Australia last June, but it did so with a fair amount of drama. The album was promoted from 2-1 after charts-compiler ARIA admitted a “data error” had rendered the initial sales chart inaccurate, and the chart was republished.
Kanye last played Down Under on the early 2012 Big Day Out tour, and as a headliner at the Splendour in the Grass festival six months before that. It’ll be his first solo headlining tour of these parts since 2008.
Australian audiences are just coming off the big blow of the Rolling Stones postponing its tour in the wake of L’Wren Scott’s death. New Stones dates have yet to be posted, though the British rockers’ Australian promoter Frontier Touring has suggested the tour may happen in October/November.
