In a special second episode this week, after yesterday’s usual rundown of the latest chart headlines, including Ariana Grande‘s pop domination, Billboard‘s Nashville-based senior chart manager Jim Asker welcomes special guests Kane Brown and his manager Martha Earls, as the trio discusses his second LP, Experiment, released today (Nov. 9).

“One thing I always say about Kane is, he’s a country singer, if you listen to his voice, but he’s a cultural crossover,” Earls says of Brown, who is biracial. “I think that’s really important for our format. It’s 2018; I think that the fan that Kane brings to the format, and the acceptance, that’s a really important thing.”

Billboard cover star Brown, who boasts two No. 1s on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart, while his latest, Experiment lead single “Lose It,” bullets at its No. 6 high to date on the Nov. 10-dated list, wanted the new set to be a mix of songs fitting for country radio and more. “I don’t know if my theory is true or not, but it’s like, you want songs that country radio is going to play, but, the way the world is, you also want songs that are going to stream very well,” he says. “If they’re on your album, sometimes you want to push those boundaries, because they won’t be on country radio. Why should they have to sound only for country radio? You want to get them on other playlists; it makes your album sell more. So, you want your country radio songs and you want your streaming songs.”
