K-Pop Hot 100: Soyu & Junggigo’s ‘Some’ Earns 2014’s Longest-Running No. 1

Soyu & Junggigo have “Some” reasons to celebrate this week as with their collaboration featuring Lil Boi of Geeks earns a fourth week at No. 1 on the K-Pop Hot 100. The feat makes the smooth R&B track the tally’s longest-running chart topper of 2014.
Soyu’s latest collab pulls ahead of Hyorin’s ballad “Goodbye,” which had earned three weeks atop the ranking. Impressively, both singers are members of female quartet group SISTAR. More impressively, Soyu’s achievement means SISTAR or members of SISTAR have sent a single to No. 1 for a month for every full year since the K-Pop Hot 100’s late 2011 introduction.
In 2012, SISTAR’s “Alone” ruled for four weeks in spring while Sistar19 — consisting of members Hyorin and Bora — sent its “Gone Not Around Any Longer” to the top for two weeks in February and two in March. The latter release wound up being the K-Pop Hot 100’s No. 1 song of 2013.
Only three other songs have earned more than four weeks at No. 1. PSY’s “Gangnam Style” and IU’s “You and I” both spent five weeks atop the chart while Lee Seung Gi’s “Return” still holds the record for six weeks at No. 1.
Furthermore, the R&B track continues to fend off competition from international favorites like 2NE1 and Girls’ Generation.
2NE1 continues vying for its second K-Pop No. 1 (following 2012’s “I Love You”) as new single “Come Back Home” stays strong at No. 2. The history-making girl group has kept interest high in the single last week by revealing its official and dance rehearsal (above) video for the reggae-trap track.
The quartet’s other promoted single — the dance-driven “Gotta Be You” — falls two spots to No. 6. Its official music video is expected to come shortly along with an acoustic version of “Come Back Home.” The video seems to have helped “Come Back Home” on the World Digital Songs chart, moving up a spot to No. 4. The video for album track “Happy” also likely helped the group on the chart, with the cut debuting at No. 15.
While the top three remain unchanged from last week — with Sung Si-Kyung’s “Every Moment Of You” soundtrack single at No. 3 — Girls’ Generation inches closer to the K-Pop Hot 100 summit as new single “Mr.Mr.” climbs one spot to No. 4.
While fans have enjoyed the heavily choreographed live performances (see below), the girls’ record label SM Entertainment has promised a dance-only version of the group’s new music video if the original exceeds 15 million views. The vid currently has a little more than 12 million views.

—World Albums: 2NE1’s “Crush” falls from No. 2 to No. 4 while Girls’ Generation’s “Mr. Mr.” EP falls to No. 7 from No. 3 and CNBLUE’s “Can’t Stop” EP falls to No. 12 from No. 6. All three debuted last week.
—Japan Hot 100: BoA’s “Shout It Out” starts at No. 37 while T-ara’s “Lead the Way” (both below) debuts at No. 46.
