Justin Bieber Returns to Top of Billboard Artist 100

Bieber ties The Weeknd for the most weeks at No. 1, eight, among males since the chart's 2014 launch. Plus, The 1975 makes a record jump to No. 5 and Kelly Clarkson returns to the top 10.

Justin Bieber is the top musical act in the U.S., reclaiming the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated March 19) for an eighth total week.

The Artist 100 measures artist activity across Billboard‘s most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

With his eighth (cumulative) week atop the Artist 100, Bieber ties fellow Canadian The Weeknd for the most frames in charge among men. Here’s an updated look at the artists with the most time on top since the Artist 100 launched in July 2014:

Bieber rebounds 2-1 on the Artist 100 with an 11 percent increase in overall activity, with social reaction marking his greatest points contributor (31 percent). Radio airplay follows at 24 percent, with new single “Company,” from his album Purpose, roaring onto the Pop Songs chart at No. 27.

Adele drops 1-2 on the Artist 100, followed by Rihanna and Drake, who hold at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.

The 1975 Earns First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart

Rounding out the Artist 100’s top five, The 1975 blasts 100-5 (up 866 percent in overall activity), as its I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales (98,000 in pure sales, according to Nielsen Music). With its 95-rung rise, the alt band sets a record for the largest leap on the Artist 100. It passes Shawn Mendes’ 93-spot vault (95-2) on the May 2, 2015, chart.

Also notably, Kelly Clarkson rockets 79-8 on the Artist 100 (up 493 percent) as her single “Piece by Piece” soars onto the Hot 100 at No. 8 following her touching performance of the song on American Idol Feb. 25. As the track zooms 35-1 on Digital Songs (210,000 downloads sold, up 853 percent), two-thirds of her Artist 100 action is from digital song sales. Album sales are next (24 percent), as parent LP Piece by Piece bounds 120-6 on the Billboard 200 and re-enters Top Album Sales at No. 11 (19,000 in pure sales, up 676 percent).

Clarkson spends a second week in the Artist 100’s top 10; she reached No. 5 on March 21, 2015, when Piece by Piece debuted atop the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales.
