GOT7 is one of the most successful K-pop acts on Billboard‘s World Albums chart with four No. 1s, ten Top 10 albums and 13 overall entries to date. With their second official sub-unit Jus2, they continue that strong history.
Composed of GOT7 leader JB and the act’s youngest member Yugyeom, Jus2 made their debut on the K-pop scene this month with their six-track Focus: Mini Album. The EP debuts at No. 6 on the World Albums chart, selling 1,000 copies, according to Nielsen Music, all of which were in traditional album units. Meanwhile, the tracks earned 342,000 U.S. streams.
This isn’t the first GOT7 splinter project to enter the charts. JJ Project, another duo composed of JB but with GOT7 vocalist Jinyoung, saw their Verse #2 EP debut at No. 2 on World Albums in August 2017. That set sold about 1,000 traditional album units in its first week as well.
While JJ Project explored both youthful hip-hop in their “Bounce” debut debut before dipping into lush and brooding pop on Verse #2, Jus2 dives head first into a trend-driven R&B sound. The slinky single “Focus on Me” defines the vibe of the EP well with its minimal, synthesizer work and sensual vocal deliveries.
Jus2 also land “Focus on Me” at No. 24 on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart in a competitive week that saw nine new tracks bow on the chart. To date, GOT7 has peaked at No. 2 on World Digital Song Sales at three different moments in their career (2016’s “Fly” and “Hard Carry,” as well as 2018’s “Lullaby”), while JJ Project sent “Tomorrow, Today,” the lead single to Verse #2, to No. 9 in 2017.
