‘Joyful Noise’ Soundtrack Could Soar Into Top 10 Next Week
The Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton film's soundtrack should make a run at the charts.
The soundtrack to the film “Joyful Noise,” which stars Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, is aiming to make a praiseworthy leap straight into the top 10 on the Billboard 200 next week.
On Nielsen SoundScan’s Building chart (below), the album is at No. 8 — which suggests the set may find itself on the final Billboard 200 tally next week. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking — reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan’s tracking week (ending Sunday, Jan. 22) as reported by six major merchants.

Last week, the “Joyful” soundtrack bowed at No. 21 on the Billboard 200, with 13,000 sold in its first week. The set includes turns by Parton and Latifah, as well as their co-stars Keke Palmer and Jeremy Jordan.
It’s not unusual for music-heavy films to see their companion soundtracks rally up the chart in January. While there is a lack of major albums released — and the market readjusts after the Christmas shopping season — many soundtracks see big gains. Last January, the soundtrack to “Country Strong” jumped up 143 spots on the chart within three weeks time, peaking at No. 6 on the list dated Jan. 29.
As for the rest of the Building chart, Adele’s “21” is (surprise!) at No. 1, the “Kidz Bop 21” set is No. 2 and Drake’s “Take Care” is No. 3. The Black Keys’ “El Camino” (No. 4), Attack Attack!’s “This Means War” (No. 5) and Toby Keith’s “Clancy’s Tavern” (No. 6) round out the top six titles. The latter could see a return to the Billboard 200’s top 10 for the first time since its debut week, when it arrived at No. 4 on the list dated Nov. 12, 2011.
Closing out the top 10 on the Building chart is Rihanna’s “Talk That Talk” (No. 7), Young Jeezy’s “T M:103 Hustlerz Ambition” (No. 9) and Coldplay’s “Mylo Xyloto” (No. 10).
The new Billboard 200 chart’s top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 25.
