Josh Groban Earns First U.K. No. 1 with ‘Stages’
Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" (Atlantic) featuring Charlie Puth starts a second week on top of the U.K. singles chart.
Josh Groban has claimed his first U.K. No. 1 album, as his collection of Broadway covers Stages (Reprise/Warner Music) debuted atop the new chart last night (April 26). Wiz Khalifa began a second week at the singles summit with “See You Again” (Atlantic), featuring Charlie Puth.
Groban, who first made the U.K. album listings with his self-titled release in 2003, hit the top ten for the first time with his last release, 2013’s All That Echoes. The new release ousted Paul Simon’s The Ultimate Collection (Sony Music), which entered the chart at No. 1 last week and is now in the runner-up spot.
The top album chart staples of recent months, Ed Sheeran’s X (Asylum/Warner Music) and Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (Capitol/Universal), held at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. James Bay slipped 2-5 with his debut set Chaos and the Calm (Republic/Virgin/Universal).
Alabama Shakes landed a No. 6 debut with their new set Sound & Color (Rough Trade), as British singer-songwriter Passenger started at No. 12 with Whispers II (Black Crow). Now That’s What I Call Music 90 (Sony Music CG/Virgin EMI/Universal) tops the compilation chart for a fourth week.
Khalifa’s “See You Again” added another 142,000 in combined chart sales to its tally, and broke its own streaming record with 3.72 million streams last week. OMI held at No. 2 with “Cheerleader” (Ultra), with 3.33 million streams, reports the Official Charts Company. Jess Glynne’s former No. 1 “Hold My Hand” (Atlantic) stayed at No. 3.
Clean Bandit, the group with whom Glynne collaborated on the hit “Rather Be,” debuted at No. 4 with “Stronger” (Atlantic/Warner Music), featuring vocals by Alex Newell and Sean Bass. “Lean On” (Because Music) by Major Lazer featuring Mo and DJ Snake, made the top ten for the first time, climbing 13-6.
