John Mayer Earns His Eighth Adult Alternative Airplay No. 1 With ‘Wild Blue’

The singer-songwriter now has the fifth-most No. 1s in the 26-year history of the chart.

John Mayer adds to his ever-growing list of No. 1s on Billboard‘s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, as “Wild Blue” lifts 2-1 on the ranking dated Feb. 12.

“Blue” is Mayer’s eighth No. 1 and second in a row, following his two-week ruler “Last Train Home” last August. He first topped the chart in December 2001 with “No Such Thing” and earned his first six leaders through 2009.

Mayer slots into sole possession of the fifth-most No. 1s in the 26-year history of Adult Alternative Airplay. Coldplay and U2 lead all acts with 13 apiece.

Concurrently, “Blue” debuts at No. 47 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 702,000 audience impressions, a boost of 18%, according to MRC Data. The song also bullets at its No. 20 on Adult Pop Airplay.

“Blue” is the second single from Sob Rock, Mayer’s eighth studio album. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart dated July 31, 2021, and has earned 510,000 equivalent album units to date.
