Instant Karma: John Lennon’s Full Catalog Now on Spotify

Spotify is a little richer in substance today (Oct. 7) with the release of John Lennon's solo catalog on the popular streaming music service.

Imagine all the streaming…

Spotify has snagged its elusive fourth Beatle, with today’s (Oct. 7) announcement of John Lennon‘s solo catalog on the popular streaming music service. From 1970’s John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band to 1984’s posthumous Milk and Honey, Spotify now offers listeners Lennon’s eight proper solo albums and three official compilations. Not included are Lennon’s trio of avant garde albums with wife Yoko Ono (1968’s Two Virgins and 1969’s Life With the Lions and Wedding Album).

The collection includes Lennon’s huge trove of solo gems, including 1970’s “Instant Karma” and the 1971 anthem “Imagine,” along with his only two Hot 100 No. 1s, 1974’s “Whatever Gets You thru the Night” and 1980s “(Just Like) Starting Over.”

Spotify has also added the compilations Gimme Some Truth, Signature Box and Power to the People.

Lennon now joins bandmates Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr to Spotify as solo artists. Missing from the service, of course, are the Beatles, who have an exclusive arrangement with iTunes. Spotify refused comment when asked about acquiring rights to The Beatles’ catalog.
