So what was happening on the Real-Time Charts this week?
Ed Sheeran released the official video for “Thinking Out Loud” on October 7, which racked up more than 2.3 million YouTube views in its first 24 hours. Sheeran’s 10.6 million Twitter followers tweeting about the dance-filled video helped the track reach the No. 1 spot. Pharrell Williams dropped the video for “Gust of Wind,” the Daft Punk featured track from Williams’ G I R L album, which also topped the chart. Jimmy Fallon and Will.i.am (or should we say Mir.i.am) reached No. 2 with a hilarious video to their original song “Ew!” And last, eclectic Los Angeles electronic-jazz producer Flying Lotus released his double LP You’re Dead on October 7, and the music video for the track “Never Catch Me” featuring Kendrick Lamar caused the track to hit No. 1.
The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
