Jesse & Joy return to the Latin Pop Albums chart top 10 as AIRE opens at No. 7 on the May 23 survey. The Mexican duo’s fifth studio album marks its first chart appearance on the top tier in almost five years, and clocks its fifth top 10 on the list.

AIRE follows Un Besito Más, the Latin Grammy winner which debuted at No. 1 on December 2015. In between, the siblings released a compilation set that did not enter the top 10.

AIRE is a celebration of life for us,” Jesse & Joy tell Billboard. “Our latest album at the end of the day had a melancholic core after the loss of our dad. This new album recognizes the cycle of life, and our children are very present in the creative. We wrote the album about two years ago never knowing that we would be confronted with the situation with have today, where the air we breathe has become more important than ever.”

AIRE opens with a little over 1,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending May 14, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The bulk of its opening sum came from streaming activity. The 11-track set earned 1.3 million on-demand streams in the tracking week.

“We are so happy that the album has entered the charts so well,” the siblings add. “That’s incredible recognition, but more than anything, it means people are listening to our music, which we hope can bring some comfort and pleasure in these troubling times.”

The Latin Pop Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin pop albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

AIRE was released May 8 via Warner Latina. It’s a fusion of gospel, hip-hop, rock, folk and pop and was co-produced alongside Martin Terefe, (Coldplay, James Blunt), Charlie Heat (Madonna, Kanye West) and composer Poo Bear (Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish).

AIRE was preceded by one track on the Hot Latin Songs chart, which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data, “Tanto,” with Luis Fonsi, which debuted and peaked at No. 46 on January 2019.

The album concurrently yielded four songs on the Latin Pop Airplay chart. “Te Esperé” leads the pack peaking at No. 14 on January 2019. Six months later, “Mañana Es Too Late” with J Balvin peaked at No. 16 on June 2019. “Tanto,” with Luis Fonsi, earned the highest rank, peaking at No. 3 (December 2019), and “Lo Nuestro Vale Más,” the set’s fourth single, peaked at No. 20 on the April 11-dated chart.

Jesse & Joy’s claimed its first top 10 on Latin Pop Albums more than 10 years ago, when Electricidad, its second studio album, debuted at No. 3.
