English singer-songwriter Jade Bird debuts at No. 13 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart (dated May 4), as her debut self-titled set arrives at No. 1 on the Heatseekers Albums chart with 3,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen Music.
The LP, which also debuts on Americana/Folk Albums at No. 14, marks her first entry on an album chart.
Bird has been making an impact on the Adult Alternative Songs chart since last spring. Her debut single “Lottery” spent three weeks atop the tally beginning in April 2018. Follow-up “Uh Huh” peaked at No. 3 in November and marked her first entry on the Alternative Songs chart, reaching No. 38. Her latest single, “I Get No Joy,” holds at its No. 13 high on Adult Alternative Songs.
The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.
City Girls log their fourth week at No. 1 on Emerging Artists, as their track “Act Up” continues to scale the Hot 100, rising 36-30 in its eighth week.
Ahead of the release of his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which drops May 17, Lewis Capaldi debuts at No. 22 on Emerging Artists, fueled by his single “Someone You Loved.” The song, currently in its third week at No. 1 on the Official UK Singles chart, is growing in the U.S., ranking at No. 29 on the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart (up 30% in plays).
Additionally, Tenille Townes debuts at No. 45 on the strength of her single “Somebody’s Daughter. The track returns to its No. 27 high on Country Airplay (7.4 million in radio reach, up 5%) and hits a new No. 31 best on the Hot Country Songs chart.
