Jack White Lands Second No. 1 Top Rock Album of 2022 With ‘Entering Heaven Alive’

The set rules Top Rock & Alternative Albums and three other surveys.

Jack White scores his second No. 1 of 2022 on Billboard‘s Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums charts with Entering Heaven Alive, which starts atop all three rankings dated Aug. 6.

The set bows with 27,000 equivalent album units earned in the July 22-28 tracking week, according to Luminate.

Of that sum, 25,000 are via album sales, helping the LP to launch at No. 2 on Top Album Sales.

The LP follows the reign on all three lists of White’s Fear of the Dawn, which debuted at No. 1 on the April 23 surveys (42,000 units in its opening week; 106,000 to date). The albums share one song among their tracklists: “Taking Me Back,” a plugged-in version of which appears on Fear, while an acoustic rendition is part of Alive.

White is the second artist to lead Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums with two albums in 2022, following Grateful Dead, with Dave’s Picks, Volume 41 in February and Dave’s Picks, Volume 42 in May.

White is the first act to rule Top Alternative Albums with two albums this year. Billie Eilish (When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Happier Than Ever), Taylor Swift (Folklore and Evermore) and Lana Del Rey (Chemtrails Over the Country Club and Blue Banisters) all doubled up in 2021.

Alive also debuts at No. 1 on Americana/Folk Albums, where White achieves his first leader. He previously reached No. 2 with Acoustic Recordings: 1998-2016 in 2016.

On the all-genre Billboard 200, Alive bows at No. 9. It’s White’s sixth solo top 10, dating to his first in 2012, when Blunderbuss hit No. 1. He also boasts three top 10s each as a member of The White Stripes, The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs.

The lead single from Alive, “Love Is Selfish,” hit No. 14 on Adult Alternative Airplay in May. White’s current radio single, “What’s the Trick?,” is from Fear, and reaches new highs of No. 7 on Alternative Airplay and No. 13 on Rock & Alternative Airplay and returns to its No. 22 best on Mainstream Rock Airplay.
