J Balvin’s ‘Rojo’ Hits No. 1 on Latin Airplay Chart

J Balvin scores his 23rd No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart as “Rojo” jumps 3-1 on the July 18 survey.

Balvin extends his second-most No. 1 record on the list, trailing only Enrique Iglesias who continues at the helm with 30 No. 1s.

“Rojo” is Balvin’s third single off Colores, his fifth studio album which peaked at No. 2 on the Top Latin Albums chart dated April 4. It concurrently debuted and peaked at No. 15 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

“Rojo” pushes to the top of the Latin Airplay tally with 12.2 million in audience impressions (up 33%) earned in the week ending July 12, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.


In addition to claiming his 23rd leader, “Rojo” marks Balvin’s fifth straight Latin Airplay No. 1 this year, all of which have led for one week, so far. His 2020 leaderboard includes two collaborations: “Que Pena,” with Maluma (No. 1, Feb. 29) and “Ritmo (Bad Boys For Life),” with Black Eyed Peas (No. 1, Feb. 8). The latter reigned Hot Latin Songs for 24 nonconsecutive weeks. Meanwhile, “Blanco” and “Morado” led for one week on the March 21- and April 25-dated charts, respectively.

Beyond its Latin Airplay takeover, “Rojo” makes progress on other Latin charts: it earns Balvin his 23rd No. 1 on Latin Rhythm (2-1) and moves up the Hot Latin Songs chart, which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data, with a 16-13 hike.

Regional Mexican Act Marca MP Arrives: Elsewhere on the Latin charts, rising regional Mexican act Marca MP secures its first appearance on any Billboard albums chart as Flores EP arrives at No. 4 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.

The Modesto, Calif. quartet, led by Chato, earns its first top 10 with its first chart appearance. It joins two other regional Mexican acts who attained the feat in 2020: Junior H with Atrapado En Un Sueño (No. 2 debut, April 11-dated chart) and Eslabon Armado with Tu Veneno Mortal (No. 2, May 16-dated list).

Flores opens at No. 4 with 2,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 9, after its July 3 release via Marca MP.  The bulk of its opening sum stemmed from streaming activity.

The Regional Mexican Albums chart ranks the most popular regional Mexican albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Flores logged a little over 2,000 SEA units, which equates to 3.1 million SEA on-demand streams for the album’s songs in its opening week.

Concurrently, Flores also bows at No. 26 on Top Latin Albums. Marca MP’s first visit to the chart.
