Insomniac Announces New San Diego Nightclub NOVA SD

Insomniac and Tao Hospitality Group will partner on the new NOVA SD nightclub formerly known as OMNIA San Diego.

Global EDM promoter Insomniac is making its way to San Diego with new nightclub Nova SD. NOVA SD will take over the space previously known as OMNIA San Diego with Tao Group Hospitality as a minority partner.

This marks the first business partnership for Insomniac’s founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella and Tao Group Hospitality, which operates major nightclubs including Tao, Marquee and LAVO venues around the world. In April 2021, Tao Group Hospitality acquired Hakkasan Group, which brought OMNIA San Diego into Tao Group Hospitality’s portfolio of entertainment, dining and nightlife venues. Insomniac will manage and operate the new San Diego nightclub.

“We’re so thankful to the thousands of music lovers that have traveled from the San Diego area to our festivals around the country for nearly 3 decades,” Rotella said in a release. “We are excited to finally be able to come here and have a home in Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.”

NOVA SD is set to open Feb. 25-26 with weekend performances from RL Grime and deadmau5. The stacked lineup of acts continue in March with sets from Jauz, Tiësto, Illenium, Diplo, JOYRYDE and Steve Aoki.

Insomniac has hosted events in San Diego — including last November’s Audiotistic San Diego held at the festival grounds at North Island Credit Union Amphitheater — but NOVA SD will create its first foothold in the Gaslamp entertainment district. The 22,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor space will feature an expanded main room dance floor to go along with plenty of additions to the existing state-of-the-art production elements.

NOVA SD will be Insomniac’s eighth nightclub venue. The promoter’s network of nightclub partnerships and acquisitions also includes Los Angeles’ Exchange LA and Academy LA, Orange County’s TIME Nightclub, Miami’s Club Space, Washington, D.C.’s Soundcheck and Echostage, and Orlando’s Vanguard.

In 2013, Insomniac entered into a creative partnership with Live Nation, the world’s largest concert promoter.

Tickets for all scheduled events are on sale now here with more shows expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
