Leading ‘Lady’: Ingrid Andress Hits No. 1 on Emerging Artists Chart

Ingrid Andress ascends to No. 1 on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart (dated April 11).

Ingrid Andress ascends to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart (dated April 11), becoming the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time, thanks to the chart arrival of her debut studio album, Lady Like, and the continued rise of her breakthrough single, “More Hearts Than Mine.”

Lady Like launches at No. 9 on the Top Country Albums chart with 9,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Meanwhile, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter’s “More Hearts Than Mine” hits a new high on Hot Country Songs at No. 8, with 31 million airplay audience impressions, 5.5 million U.S. streams and 4,000 downloads sold.

Notably, Andress was featured as Billboard‘s Chartbreaker in December as “More Hearts Than Mine” began to scale Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay.

Andress dethrones fellow rising country act (and fellow Chartbreaker honoree) Gabby Barrett atop Emerging Artists, after the latter led for six weeks; Barrett graduates from the chart, per chart rules, as her breakout single “I Hope” enters the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100, leaping from No. 30 to No. 22.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard‘s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

Among other Emerging Artists moves, Waxahatchee debuts at No. 7, as the act’s fifth LP, Saint Cloud, arrives at No. 1 on Heatseekers Albums, No. 2 on Americana/Folk Albums and No. 6 on Alternative Albums with 7,000 units. The set’s single “Lilacs” concurrently ranks at No. 36 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart.
