It’s five for five when it comes to iKON releases on the Billboard charts.
The seven-member boy band see their latest EP New Kids : The Final debut at No. 5 on the World Albums chart, marking their fifth Top 5 entry on the chart. The Final, which follows up iKON’s August release New Kids: Continue, sold 1,000 copies in the week ending Oct. 4, according to Nielsen Music. That amount more or less ties with the septet’s previous best first-week sales with the act scoring 1,000 in sales from their Welcome Back, Return, and New Kids: Continue releases.
As mentioned, the YG Entertainment outfit now have five entries on World Albums and all have reached the Top 5 of the ranking. The guys first entered the chart with Welcome Back: Debut Half Album in late 2015 (peaking at No. 3), before the full Welcome Back album was released at the top of 2016 (peaking at No. 2, their best position on the chart to date). The guys earned their following three top 5 entries all in 2018 with Return and New Kids: Continue (both peaking at No. 4) and now New Kids: The Final.
With heavy involvement from iKON leader B.I (as co-producer and co-writer of each song) along with rapper member Bobby (who co-wrote on two songs), the guys take their sweeping, passionate deliveries and this time shape it towards an autumnal mood. Lead single “Goodbye Road” employs a stirring and emotional violin motif, “Adore You” sees surging piano, percussion and guitar backing the guys’ croons and album closer “Perfect” lets the guys jazz-band side peep out. “Goodbye Road” also debuts on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart at No. 20 this week.
All in all, it’s been an exciting year for iKON who promoted three different releases this year — a rarity for the act who typically only saw one K-pop promotional period per year through their career — and continued their high-charting success throughout.
