Iggy Azalea spends a fourth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Fancy,” featuring Charli XCX, and holds at No. 2 as a featured act on Ariana Grande’s “Problem.” “Fancy” also takes over atop the Radio Songs chart. Meanwhile, PSY returns with “Hangover,” featuring Snoop Dogg, at No. 26.
As we do each Wednesday, let’s look at the numbers behind the chart’s top 10 and more.
Azalea continues her record-tying run in the Hot 100’s top two spots, as, for a fourth week, “Fancy” and “Problem” rank at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively; previously, only the Beatles held the Hot 100’s top two rungs simultaneously with their first two entries, for 10 weeks in 1964.
“Fancy” continues its Hot 100 command aided by its coronation on Radio Songs (2-1). The track surges by 7 percent to 145 million in all-format audience, according to Nielsen BDS. Azalea becomes the first female rapper to lead the list since Shawnna topped the Dec. 6, 2003, tally as featured on Ludacris’ “Stand Up.” Azalea is the first lead female rapper to rule Radio Songs since Lil’ Kim’s “Magic Stick,” featuring 50 Cent, reigned the week of July 5, 2003. The only other Radio Songs No. 1s by female rappers: Eve’s “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” featuring Gwen Stefani (four weeks, 2001) and Lil’ Kim’s “Lady Marmalade,” with Christina Aguilera, Mya and P!nk (six weeks, 2001).
As it tops Radio Songs, “Fancy” registers drops in sales and streaming for a third week. It leads Digital Songs for a fourth week but decreases by 14 percent to 226,000 downloads sold in the tracking week ending on June 15, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It logs a fifth week at No. 1 on Streaming Songs, down by 2 percent to 12.2 million U.S. streams, according to BDS.
“Fancy” featured singer Charli XCX, meanwhile, soars with her first Hot 100 hit as a lead artist, as “Boom Clap” bounds 62-29 in its second week. As its push to pop radio begins, the track jumps into the Digital Songs top 10 (16-9; 116,000, up 55 percent), powered by its inclusion in “The Fault in Our Stars” film and soundtrack, the latter of which pushes 8-5 on the Billboard 200 with a 5 percent gain to 38,000 sold. The catchy cut approaches Streaming Songs (1 million, up 266 percent) and Radio Songs (3.4 million, up from 150,000).
“Fancy” again holds off “Problem” for the Hot 100’s top rank, with the latter also gaining at radio but decreasing in sales and streaming. “Problem” pushes 4-3 on Radio Songs, up by 11 percent to 127 million. It holds at its No. 2 peak on Streaming Songs (10.6 million, down 11 percent) and dips 2-3 on Digital Songs (186,000, down 13 percent); now in its seventh week on the chart, it spent its first three frames at No. 1.
With “Fancy” and “Problem” down by 5 and 6 percent, respectively, in overall Hot 100 points, the former claims 17 percent more points than the latter. “Fancy” had won by 15 percent the previous two weeks.
“Fancy” leads the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a fourth and ninth week, respectively, while topping the Songs of the Summer ranking for a third week.
Below the “Fancy” and “Problem” stranglehold, Canadian pop/reggae quartet MAGIC! blasts 7-3 with its debut Hot 100 hit “Rude,” which claims top Digital and Airplay Gainer honors. The song surges 4-2 on Digital Songs (207,000, up 28 percent) and enters the Radio Songs top 10 (13-8; 88 million, up 28 percent). On Streaming Songs, it stays at its No. 9 high (5.9 million, up 21 percent).
John Legend’s “All of Me” drops 3-4 on the Hot 100 after logging three weeks at No. 1 and falls 1-2 after seven weeks atop Radio Songs (138 million, down 10 percent). It slips 6-7 on Streaming Songs (6.3 million, down 8 percent), while rebounding 9-7-on Digital Songs (122,000, up 5 percent); it peaked at No. 2 on the latter list for eight weeks.
Again rounding out the Hot 100’s top five, Jason Derulo’s “Wiggle,” featuring Snoop Dogg, holds at No. 5. The song remains at No. 3 on Streaming Songs (9.4 million, up 8 percent); backtracks 5-6 on Digital Songs (142,000, down 3 percent) and charges 36-28 on Radio Songs (44 million, up 24 percent).
DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What” slide to No. 6 on the Hot 100 from its No. 4 peak and leads the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for a 12th week.
Norwegian pop duo Nico & Vinz lifts 8-7 (after reaching No. 6 two weeks ago) with its first Hot 100 hit, “Am I Wrong.” The track darts 10-5 on Radio Songs (101 million, up 22 percent); rebounds 6-5 on Digital Songs (144,000, up 1 percent) after rising to No. 3 three weeks ago; and slips 13-15 on Streaming Songs, but with a 6 percent advance to 4.2 million.
Pharrell Williams’ former 10-week Hot 100 No. 1 “Happy” descends 6-8, while Calvin Harris’ “Summer” holds at its No. 9 peak. It bullets again at No. 7 on Radio Songs (96 million, up 8 percent) and No. 12 on Digital Songs (96,000, up 4 percent) and regresses 12-13 on Streaming Songs, although with a 2 percent gain to 4.3 million.
After vaulting 19-10 last week, U.K. pop singer/songwriter Sam Smith holds at No. 10 with “Stay With Me.” The ballad slips 3-4 on Digital Songs (165,000, down 1 percent), while pushing 18-14 on Radio Songs (66 million, up 23 percent) and 41-34 on Streaming Songs (2.2 million, up 12 percent). Smith concurrently climbs 17-14 with his third top 20 Hot 100 hit, Disclosure’s “Latch,” on which he’s featured. (In his first visit, as featured on Naughty Boy’s “La La La,” he reached No. 19.) Smith’s debut full-length album, “In the Lonely Hour,” was released yesterday (June 17) and is due in the upper reaches of next week’s Billboard 200 (highlights of which will be revealed on Billboard.com a week from today).
Below the Hot 100’s top 10, Korean rapper PSY scores the chart’s top debut with “Hangover,” featuring Snoop Dogg, at No. 26. The track starts with 90 percent of its chart points from streaming, entering Streaming Songs at No. 4 with 7.3 million U.S. streams (97 percent of which are from Vevo on YouTube video views). Sales account for nearly all of its other Hot 100 points (16,000 first-week downloads sold). In PSY’s two prior Hot 100 visits, he reached No. 2 with “Gangnam Style” in 2012 and No. 5 with “Gentleman” last year. The official video for “Style” has drawn more than 2 billion worldwide YouTube views, ranking as the site’s most-watched clip all-time (after passing Justin Bieber’s “Baby”).
Other notable moves below the top 10 include Pitbull’s “We Are One (Ole Ola) [The 2014 FIFA World Cup Official Song],” featuring Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte, re-entering at a new high of No. 59, after the World Cup kicked off (pun intended) on June 12; Clean Bandit’s former four-week U.K. No. 1 “Rather Be,” featuring Jess Glynne, debuting at No. 97; and Jamie N Commons and X Ambassadors’ “Jungle” entering at No. 100 following its usage in an episode and trailer for Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black,” the trailer for the movie “Welcome to Yesterday” and a synch in a World Cup commercial for Beats Electronics.
