Classical music streaming service IDAGIO has launched in North America, bringing its catalog of 1 million-plus tracks to the United States and Canada. According to the Berlin-based company, the service is now available in all territories except for China and Japan — an internationalisation effort that was aided by a recent funding round of €10 million euro ($11.7 million) from existing investors.
The service holds licensing deals with the three major labels along with more than a thousand indies and is designed specifically to meet the needs of discerning classical music fans, offering lossless audio and search function and filters for the notoriously complicated genre, allowing users to compare multiple recordings and versions of the same works. IDAGIO does not disclose its total subscriber count but does say it attracted a quarter of a million registered users in 2018 alone. Subscribers in the U.S. and Canada will pay $9.99 per month for the service, which operates a mobile app and a desktop version.
