Howard Stern & Robin Quivers Try to Cover ‘Shallow’: Watch

There have been a ton of really great covers of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's iconic duet from "A Star is Born," but the SiriusXM stars' version is not one of them.

There have been a bunch of really great covers of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s show-stopping A Star is Born duet “Shallow.” Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Lewis Capaldi, America’s Got Talent alum Brian Justin Crum and Lea Michele and Darren Criss have all given the powerful Oscar-winning ballad their own spin.

Not all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, though. Case in point: on his SiriusXM show on Monday (Feb. 25) Howard Stern was raving about Sunday’s intimate, much-discussed Oscars broadcast performance of the song from the movie’s stars. “Emotional song…don’t you think you and I should duet on this?” Stern asked his decades-long sidekick Robin Quivers as they watched back the video from the 2019 Oscars ceremony.

Quivers, whose warbly singing has become a staple of the Howard100 universe, was, of course, game. So the tone-deaf duo dove in, quickly realizing how hard it is to pull off the track’s intricate, smoldering vocal interplay. Quivers briefly tried to scale Gaga’s vocal heights, her voice almost instantly cracking at the hint of a high note. “I’m not gonna do that, I have to work today. I can’t do that, I won’t have a voice left!,” she laughed.

While Stern and Quivers missed in the most classic Stern show way, it’s not the last musical effort we’re going to hear from the satellite radio giant. Stern recently revealed that he’s working on a new single with Gaga producer/songwriter Mark Ronson that will feature contributions from HAIM and The Roots.
