Hot 100 Chart Moves: Nick Jonas’ ‘Jealous’ Jumps Into Top 40
Jonas reaches the region for the first time in five years… and without his brothers. Plus, moves for Jason Derulo, Lorde, Alesso and OG Maco.
As previously reported, Meghan Trainor leads an all-female top five on the Billboard Hot 100 for a record fifth week with “All About That Bass.” Plus, Maroon 5’s “Animals” roars into the top 10 and One Direction’s “Steal My Girl” starts at No. 13.
Who else makes notable Hot 100 moves this week?
Jason Derulo: As it rises 27-23 on the Hot 100, “Trumpets” becomes Derulo’s sixth top 10 on Digital Songs, where it lifts 12-10. It gains by 11 percent to 78,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. After scoring his first three Digital Songs top 10s in 2009-10, Derulo has added three this year: “Trumpets,” “Talk Dirty” and “Wiggle.”
Nick Jonas: He scores his first solo top 40 Hot 100 hit, and returns to the bracket for the first time in five years, as “Jealous” vaults 58-40 in its fourth week. As one-third of Jonas Brothers, he made nine top 40 visits from 2007-09. The group charted highest with “Burnin’ Up,” which reached No. 5 in 2008.

“Jealous” blasts 36-17 on Digital Songs with a 101 percent surge to 64,000 downloads sold. It also nears Streaming Songs with a 44 percent gain to 1.3 million U.S. streams and Radio Songs with a 20 percent increase to 27 million in audience, according to Nielsen BDS.
His new self-titled album arrives Nov. 11.
Lorde: The moody “Yellow Flicker Beat” enters the Hot 100 at No. 74. As previously reported, Lorde logs the highest launch by a female artist on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart (No. 17) since 1995. The song is the first single from the Lorde-curated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack; the film hits theaters Nov. 21.
“I think Lorde has done a great service in terms of adding diversity to the format. Female artists, in terms of amount of them, are lacking,” says Paul Jarvis, music director/assistant program director of alternative WBOS Boston. The station played the track 30 times its first week out (and has spun her breakout hit, last year’s “Royals,” 800 times to date).
“The more diversity in sound we can have, the better.”
Alesso: Assisted by featured artist Tove Lo, up 7-6 on the Hot 100 with her own “Habits (Stay High),” Swedish DJ Alesso makes his Hot 100 debut at No. 89 with “Heroes (We Could Be).” He concurrently lands his first top 10 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, where the single pushes 11-9.

The hopeful track reworks David Bowie’s classic “Heroes.”
OG Maco: “U Guessed It” arrives at No. 94 on the Hot 100 after topping the Oct. 4 Billboard + Twitter Emerging Tracks chart. With OG Maco having built a sizable Vine following, 74 percent of the track’s chart points are from streaming. On Hot Rap Songs, it debuts at No. 21.
