Hot 100 Chart Moves: Lil Uzi Vert Vaults & Alessia Cara Tops Adult Contemporary
Plus, Rag'n'Bone Man's rock hit "Human" debuts.
As previously reported, Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” tops the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated April 22) for an 11th week. Directly below, Kendrick Lamar arrives at No. 2 with “Humble.,” his first top 10 as a lead artist and the highest-debuting rap hit in nearly seven years.
Plus, Sam Hunt scores the Hot 100’s first top 10 for a country song since Florida Georgia Line‘s “Cruise” in 2013 with a 12-6 jump for “Body Like a Back Road” (as discussed on both this week’s Chart Beat Podcast and Pop Shop Podcast).
Who else makes impressive moves on this week’s Hot 100?
Lil Uzi Vert, “XO Tour Llif3”
As previously noted, Lil Uzi Vert leaps 26-8 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with “XO Tour Llif3,” earning his first top 10 as a lead act; he spent 10 weeks at No. 1 as featured on Migos‘ “Bad and Boujee” earlier this year. On the Hot 100, the track soars 49-16. It wins top Streaming Gainer honors on both charts, surging by 106 percent to 27.3 million U.S. streams in the week ending April 6, according to Nielsen Music.
The advance is due in part to a dance challenge, dubbed the #LilUziVertChallenge, which is based on a shoulder shimmy dance performed by the rapper and prompted fan-made videos across several social media platforms. Streaming is driving the song on the two tallies, accounting for 88 percent of its points.
Alessia Cara, “Scars to Your Beautiful”
Two months after the song peaked at No. 8 on the Hot 100, it crowns the Adult Contemporary airplay chart (in Cara’s first visit to the AC list). Nearly three months ago, it topped Pop Songs, becoming her second No. 1 on the top 40 radio-based ranking. Cara arrived with the Pop Songs leader “Here” in February 2016.

Rag’n’Bone Man, “Human”
The British singer-songwriter (born Rory Graham) makes his Hot 100 debut at No. 100. The track became a worldwide hit beginning last summer. In the U.S., it topped the Adult Alternative Songs chart for five weeks beginning Feb. 11. On March 25, it led Alternative Songs.
“Human” hits the Hot 100, and returns to its No. 5 high on Hot Rock Songs, with a 22 percent gain to 15 million in all-format airplay audience. It also boasts 2.6 million U.S. streams in the tracking week.
