Hot 100 Chart Moves: Jeremih Jumps With ‘Don’t Tell ‘Em,’ Mary Lambert Shares ‘Secrets’

Jeremih's hit nears the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Mary Lambert makes her first visit on her own. Plus, moves for Disclosure, Vance Joy and Big & Rich.

As previously reported, Meghan Trainor takes over atop the Billboard Hot 100 with “All About That Bass.” Who else is all about making moves on the chart this week?

Hot 100 Chart Moves: Eminem Enters With Sia Collab, Beyonce’s ‘Flawless’ Debuts

Jeremih: “Don’t Tell ‘Em” (featuring YG), which interpolates Snap! club classic “Rhythm Is a Dancer” (a No. 5 hit on the Hot 100 in 1993), nears the top 10 (17-13). Highlighting its push: it bullets at No. 8 on Radio Songs (101 million in all-format audience, up 12 percent, according to Nielsen BDS) and rises 14-12 on Digital Songs (72,000 downloads sold, up 2 percent, according to Nielsen SoundScan).

“Don’t” previews Jeremih’s third studio set, Late Nights: The Album, due Sept. 30.

Disclosure: “Latch,” featuring Sam Smith (now at No. 21 after reaching No. 7), shifted 36,000 in the week ending Sept. 7, narrowly outselling an inventive cover: vocal quintet Pentatonix’s “La La Latch,” which mashes-up “Latch” and Naughty Boy’s “La La” (also featuring Smith). The mash-up sold 33,000 in its first week.

“La La Latch” previews Pentatonix’s first RCA album, PTX, Vol. III, due Sept. 23. The first two volumes, released independently, reached Nos. 14 and 10 on the Billboard 200, respectively. In between, the group scored its highest rank (No. 7) with its PTXmas EP.

Vance Joy: The Australian singer/songwriter parlays the success of his breakout hit “Riptide,” up 61-59 on the Hot 100, into his first appearance on the Artist 100, where he debuts at No. 86. The folk-rock cut spends a fifth week atop both Rock Airplay and Alternative Songs, with airplay accounting for the majority (62 percent) of his Artist 100 points. Album sales should spur a jump for Joy (pun intended) on next week’s Artist 100 following the Sept. 9 release of his debut LP Dream Your Life Away.

Mary Lambert: “Secrets,” new at No. 92, gives Lambert her debut on the Hot 100 as a lead artist. She first appeared as featured on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love,” which reached No. 11 last year. “Secrets” previews Lambert’s debut full-length album Heart on My Sleeve (Oct. 14). The track bullets at No. 16 on Adult Pop Songs; in March, she reached No. 20 on the airplay chart with “She Keeps Me Warm,” a rap-free reworking of “Same” from her 2013 EP Welcome to the Age of My Body.

Big & Rich: “Look at You” debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 100 seven months after it first charted on Country Digital Songs. The harmony-heavy track previews the duo’s Sept. 23 album Gravity.
