Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited, the music investment IP company founded by former Beyoncé and Guns N’ Roses manager Merck Mercuriadis, has acquired the entire catalog of Dave A. Stewart, perhaps best-known as one-half of the foundational synthpop outfit Eurythmics with Annie Lennox. The acquisition includes 100 percent of the UK musician, songwriter and producer’s copyright interest in his catalog, which comprises 1,068 songs in total and includes his writer’s, artist’s and producer’s share of income.

Stewart co-wrote and produced each of the Eurythmics’ albums, which are estimated to have moved 100 million units globally to date, and iconic singles “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Would I Lie to You,” and “There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart).” The duo won the 1987 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and the 1999 BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. In 2005, both Stewart and Lennox were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

In addition to his work with Eurythmics, Stewart has produced and written songs with artists like Tom Petty (“Don’t Come Around Here No More”) and No Doubt (“Underneath It All”). He’s also worked with Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi, Stevie Nicks, Bryan Ferry, Katy Perry, Sinead O’Connor and more. He won Best British Producer at the BRIT Awards in 1986, 1987 and 1990.

Hipgnosis has been on a hot streak since 2018, when it picked up the catalogs of Christopher “Tricky” Stewart and Justin Bieber collaborator Jason Boyd, better known as Poo Bear, and partnered with The-Dream (real name Terius Youngdell Nash). In March 2019, it scooped up even more hits including Usher‘s “Yeah,” Mariah Carey‘s “We Belong Together” and Beyoncé’s “Check On It” when they acquired the catalogs of songwriters Johntá Austin, Sean Garrett and Rico Love, whose combined works comprise over 1,000 songs.
