Pitch Perfect 2 star Hailee Steinfeld has signed a record contract with Republic Records. The news comes less than a week after Pitch Perfect 2 opened with the biggest box office tally ever for a musical.
The Academy Award-nominated actress is currently in the studio working on her debut release with producers Captain Cuts, Harvey Mason, The Futuristics, Mattman & Robin from MXM and others, according to a press release.
Steinfeld first captured attention in the Cohen Brothers’ True Grit as Mattie Ross, the 14-year-old girl seeking retribution for her father’s murder. She earned an Oscar, Screen Actors Guild and BAFTA nominations for that supporting role. She has since starred in Ender’s Game, Begin Again and, recently, Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood” music video.
“The moment that we met Hailee we found her commitment to music inspiring,” said Republic Records executive vice president Charlie Walk. “She has the vision, natural talent and dedication to compete at the highest level. We are thrilled to be a part of her musical journey.”
Added Republic Records co-founder and chief executive Monte Lipman, “Hailee is a multi-talented artist and among her many gifts, her voice is both unique and undeniable. It’s exciting to have her join the Republic family.”
Steinfeld’s first single is expected for release sometime this year.
