Guy Moot has been promoted to Sony/ATV Music Publishing president of worldwide creative, superseding his previous title of president of European Creative. He also remains managing director of Sony/ATV’s U.K. operation and will continue to report to the company’s chairman and CEO Martin Bandier.
In his new position, Moot will oversee major creative deals in the U.K., Europe and North America, excluding Nashville, Miami and Latin America. The latter markets are overseen by Sony/ATV U.S. co-president Danny Strick, who also reports to Bandier.
“Guy Moot… stands out as one of the genuine A&R executive superstars of the worldwide music industry,” Bandier said in a statement. “His creative leadership for Sony/ATV in the U.K. and Europe has been exceptional and I am excited that he will now get a chance to fully utilize his creative talents in the U.S.”
According to the announcement, Moot has signed such songwriters as Calvin Harris, Sia, Mark Ronson, Paul Epworth, Sean Paul, Gang Starr and the late Amy Winehouse.
Moot has a long history working with Bandier, having joined his co-owned SBK Publishing in 1987, which was subsequently acquired in 1989 by EMI and moved with Bandier to EMI Music Publishing. While Bandier left EMI to take the helm of Sony/ATV in 2007, Moot was reunited with him when a Sony-led consortium acquired EMI Music Publishing in 2012. In addition to running the company’s U.K. operation, Moot also was responsible for launching Sony/ATV’s neighboring rights division.
“Since living in New York in the ’90s I’ve always maintained a close working relationship with the U.S. and am looking forward to spending even more time there,” Moot said in a statement. “For me this new role perfectly mirrors the industry in 2017 when many songwriters are traveling the world to collaborate with writers in other markets and a hit song can now emerge from absolutely anywhere. It means the modern A&R executive has to stay on top of a variety of markets and connect people from different territories.”
