Johannesburg, South Africa-born singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov debuts at No. 6 on Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart (dated Oct. 20), as his new set Evening Machines launches as his first No. 1 on the Americana/Folk Albums chart with 13,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.

Isakov’s previous two entries, 2013’s The Weatherman and 2016’s Gregory Alan Isakov With the Colorado Symphony, reached Nos. 5 and 9 on Americana/Folk Albums, respectively.

Evening Machines also earns Isakov his first top 10 on the Top Rock Albums chart, entering at No. 7.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard‘s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

Lovelytheband returns to No. 1 on Emerging Artists for a second total week on top, as the group’s breakthrough single “Broken” becomes its first top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 (48-39), while follow-up “These Are My Friends” reaches the Alternative Songs chart’s top 20 (21-17).

Rounding out the Emerging Artists’ top five, Lauv dips to No. 2 after 14 total weeks at the summit, Ice Nine Kills debuts at No. 3, Louis Tomlinson falls 3-4 and Bryce Vine is steady at No. 5.

Plus, LANY bows at No. 11 on Emerging Artists, as the trio’s sophomore LP Malibu Nights debuts at No. 3 on Alternative Albums and No. 36 on the Billboard 200 with 15,000 units.
