Green Day’s ‘Revolution Radio Tour’ Wrap Leads Hot Tours Roundup

Green Day's "Revolution Radio Tour" wrap leads the latest Hot Tours roundup.

Green Day has wrapped the final leg of its Revolution Radio Tour that covered four continents during a 14-month stretch that began in September 2016. Box office sales from the first five stops on the tour’s seventh and final leg — a nine-city trek through Latin America — reached $6.2 million from more than 90,000 sold tickets. Reported by Latin promoter Move Concerts, sales from those five markets earn the band the No. 1 ranking on the latest roundup of top-grossing Hot Tours (see below).

The Latin leg was the band’s only jaunt on the South American continent during the tour that launched on Sept. 26, 2016 and wrapped in November of this year. Included were three runs through North America, two through European countries and one trek in Australia and New Zealand.

The tour included over 100 headlining dates at both indoor and outdoor venues, along with a host of festival appearances primarily in Europe this past summer. About 65% of the shows worldwide were reported to Billboard Boxscore by promoters and venues, so based on show averages from reported concerts, the estimated overall gross for the tour falls in the $70 million range from about 1.2 million sold tickets.

Green Day’s top-grossing engagement on the tour — among the reported events — was a stadium performance in Buenos Aires during the recent Latin American leg. The concert, held at Estadio José Amalfitani, produced a $2.2 million take from 33,123 sold seats on Nov. 10. The Argentine venue was one of four stadiums during the Latin leg that also included shows staged at outdoor concert sites in four more locations. The band’s final appearance on the tour came in Mexico City on Nov. 19. Green Day headlined the closing night of the Corona Capital Festival that also featured a headlining slot for Foo Fighters the previous day.
