‘Girls’ Sends Lord Huron, Meg Mac Onto THR’s Top TV Songs Chart for February

The acts rank at Nos. 1 and 3 after appearing in the series' first two episodes of its new season.

The fifth-season premiere of HBO’s Girls paid big dividends for indie folk act Lord Huron, whose “Fool for Love,” which was featured in the episode, tops THR‘s Top TV Songs, powered by Shazam, for February.

Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on cumulative monthly Shazam tags, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the same period.

“Fool,” which played in the closing minutes of the Feb. 21 season opener, tops the February chart with 27,000 Shazam tags. The track immediately jumped in digital sales, leaping to 4,000 digital downloads in the tracking week ending Feb. 25 – enough to give Lord Huron its first spot on a Billboard song sales chart, debuting at No. 48 on Rock Digital Songs (dated March 12). The track was previously released as a single in spring 2015 and rose to No. 3 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart in July.

Another sync from Girls makes the February chart: Meg Mac‘s “Roll Up Your Sleeves,” which slots in at No. 3 with 15,000 tags after its inclusion in the series’ second episode of the new season (Feb. 28). After selling a negligible amount of downloads the week before, the song was downloaded 1,000 times in the week ending March 3, while also jumping in domestic streams, from 20,000 clicks to 50,000.

“Sleeves,” like Lord Huron’s entry, also first built familiarity on radio, reach No. 15 on Adult Alternative Songs in September.
