GFriend Score Fifth Top 10 Entry on World Albums Chart
GFriend's latest chart performance seems to solidify them as a consistent and high-charting K-pop girl in America.

GFriend‘s latest chart performance solidifies them as a consistently high-charting K-pop girl group in America.
The sextet’s latest EP with Time for the Moon Night: The 6th Mini Album debuts at No. 6 on Billboard‘s World Albums chart dated May 12, 2018. With that, GFriend earns their fifth Top 10 entry on the chart. The group first appeared on World Albums early in 2016 with their Snowflake EP (which debuted at No. 10 that February) and followed up later that year with their full-length LOL (which peaked at No. 7 in July). They also scored two entries in 2017 with March’s The Awakening (No. 5, their peak position on the chart) and August’s Parallel (No. 10).
With their latest majestic release — led by its orchestral-pop title track — GFriend now ties Twice and Girls’ Generation for second-most Top 10 entries on World Albums among all K-pop girl groups as both have earned five apiece to date. While Red Velvet leads this tally (with eight Top 10 albums total) overall, GFriend, Twice and SNSD take second place, followed by Sistar, f(x) and MAMAMOO, who all have four each.
GFriend is considered one of the leading acts in the new, “third generation” of K-pop stars with the ladies marking one of the few girl groups to even score a Top 10 entry on World Albums since 2015. Since GFriend’s January 2015 start, only one other girl group that debuted that year earned a Top 10 entry on the chart, so far, in Twice. Since then, three girl groups who debuted in 2016 scored Top 10 entires (Blackpink, Pristin and Bolbbalgan4), two from 2017 (Dreamcatcher and Loona Odd Eye Circle) and one from 2018 so far ((G)I-DLE).
Elsewhere on the charts, GFriend’s title track “Time for the Moon Light” debuts at No. 17 on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart. The group has three hits on the chart in “Navillera” (which peaked at No. 12 in 2016), “Fingertip” (No. 13 in 2017) and now 2018’s “Time for the Moon Night.”
