‘Game Of Thrones’ Dominates Top Two Spots Of April 2019’s Top TV Songs Chart
Florence + the Machine's "Jenny of Oldstones" rules the list, followed by Ramin Djawadi's "The Night King" score.
HBO’s final season of Game of Thrones isn’t just the talk of social media and a ratings hit to boot – its music is also connecting in a big way, as the show takes the top two spots of The Hollywood Reporter’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind, for April 2019.
Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending that data with sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the corresponding period.
GoT leads the list with Florence + the Machine’s “Jenny of Oldstones.” The track, which appears in the closing credits of the eighth season’s second episode (April 21), racked up 24,000 downloads and 3.2 million streams in April, according to Nielsen Music. Its download count was good enough for the track to debut at No. 1 on the Rock Digital Song Sales list dated May 4, the Florence Welch-led act’s first track to do so since 2010, when “Dog Days Are Over” ruled for two weeks.
“Jenny of Oldstones” was also performed during the show itself a cappella by actor Daniel Portman, who portrays Podrick Payne on the show.
The following episode’s standout score, Ramin Djawadi’s “The Night King,” swoops in at No. 2, having garnered 9,000 downloads and 2.2 million streams following its appearance in the April 28 episode. Djawadi has been the composer on Game of Thrones since its inception and scored the series’ familiar theme song.
Darlingside’s “Hold Your Head Up High,” meanwhile, occupies the first spot on the April 2019 chart not held by a GoT song. The track, which earned 4,000 downloads and 435,000 streams in April, appeared in the April 2 episode (season three, episode 18) of NBC’s This Is Us.
