Frank Ocean Files Cease & Desist to Have Vocals Taken Off Travis Scott’s ‘Astroworld’: Report
According to TMZ, the 30-year-old has filed a cease and desist demanding his vocals be taken off the song altogether.

Update: Frank Ocean posted a message to his Tumblr account clarifying that he resolved the issue with Travis weeks ago.”I THINK THE SONG SOUNDS COOL, I DID IT IN LIKE 20 MINUTES AND THE MIX SOUNDS THE WAY TRAVIS WANTED IT TO SOUND FOR HIS RECORD. I ALSO APPROVED IT BEFORE IT CAME OUT SO THE CEASE AND DESIST WASN’T ABOUT [music emoji] IT WAS ABOUT [rainbow flag emoji] ME AND TRAVIS RESOLVED IT AMONGST OURSELVES WEEKS AGO [heart emoji],” he wrote on Friday (Sept. 14).
Frank Ocean lent his talents to Travis Scott’s Astroworld for “Carousel,” where he appears on the tune’s chorus and final verse. But the Blonde artist is reportedly unhappy with the alterations made to his contributions. According to TMZ, the 30-year-old has filed a cease and desist against Scott’s legal team, demanding his vocals be taken off the song altogether.
Ocean’s pitch on the third verse is substantially different than his auto-tuned chorus. The report goes on to state that the former Oddfuture member did not approve of the changes for the final cut of “Carousel,” but doesn’t specifically allude to what exactly angered Ocean.
TMZ’s sources claim that La Flame doesn’t plan on switching anything around for the Astroworld standout cut. Both artists’ legal teams are already reportedly heavily engaged with no clear end in sight. Scott and Ocean previously teamed up for the secretive creative’s “Lens V2” in 2017. The 26-year-old even referred to finally working with the Channel Orange artist as a “life goal.”
Give the original version of “Carousel” a listen below. Billboard has reached out Travis Scott’s reps for comment.
