On Tuesday Sept.16, Eric Bellinger debuted a new song from his upcoming mixtape, Choose Up Season, titled”Awkward.” The track, which features rapper The Game, dons a smooth piano-based melody on which Bellinger’s laments a failed relationship. Shortly after its release, “Awkward” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Twitter Trending 140 chart due to online buzz.
A singer-songwriter, Bellinger has penned songs for artists including Ashanti, Justin Bieber and Chris Brown. Besides “Awkward” hitting the web, Tuesday marked a big day for the songwriter for another reason. Chris Brown’s X hit shelves the same day. Bellinger helped five songs for X, including “Fine China,” which reached No. 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In addition to “Awkward,” Bellinger revealed a one-minute trailer for Choose Up Season, which shows a shirtless Bellinger smothered by multiple women.
Each of the mixtape’s songs will be accompanied by themed artwork in the same style as the cover art. “More content” will be released in the weeks leading up to its Oct. 1 release.
“I’m excited to release this project, which I put my heart and soul into,” Bellinger says via press release. “I’m most grateful for the fan support throughout this amazing journey. I promise the best is yet to come!”
Choose Up Season follows Bellinger’s debut album, The Rebirth, which peaked at No. 25 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in March.
