Erasure Scores First No. 1 on Classical Albums Chart With ‘World Beyond’

Dance/pop duo Erasure scores its first No. 1 on Billboard's Classical Albums chart with "World Beyond."

After more than three decades on Billboard’s charts, dance/pop duo Erasure has notched hit songs and albums on a range of tallies, including the Billboard Hot 100, Pop SongsTop Dance/Electronic Albums, Alternative Songs and even Holiday Albums. Now, the act expands its reach to a surprising genre: classical.

Erasure’s new album World Beyond debuts at No. 1 on the Classical Albums and Classical Crossover Albums charts dated March 24 — the act’s first leader on both lists. It starts with 2,000 copies sold in the week ending March 15, according to Nielsen Music.

The album is a classical reworking of Erasure’s previous studio effort, 2017’s World Be Gone, which debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. It also hit No. 22 on Alternative Albums and No. 31 on Top Rock Albums, among other lists.

To reinterpret the 10 songs of World Be Gone for World Beyond, Erasure collaborated with Brussels-based classical ensemble Echo Collective, which also produced the new album.

Erasure recently completed a tour of Europe, and will head back out on the road for a North American trek beginning on April 21 in Guadalajara, Mexico. The tour will visit the U.S. and Canada from July 6 through Aug. 26, wrapping on the latter date at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.
