Chris Oliviero, Programming Chief at Entercom Radio, Announces Exit After 22 Years

Radio veteran Chris Oliviero, longtime executive vp of programming at CBS Radio before and after its merger with Entercom, has announced his exit next month after more than two decades at the company. In an email to colleagues, Oliviero called his 22 years at CBS “nothing short of spectacular” and that, with the company’s merger with Entercom now in the books, he felt it was the right time to focus on new opportunities.

“It has been my true honor and joy to have had a chance to partner with and learn from the best and brightest programmers in the industry,” he said. “Though our days as colleagues might be winding down, the friendships will continue.”

Oliviero joined CBS Radio in 1996 as an intern on the popular “Howard Stern Show.” Since then, he has played pivotal roles in the creation of CBS’ sports audio platform and the company’s expansion into marquee live events, including “Stars and Strings” and “the Night Before” concert series, among other things. In his current role at Entercom, he leads content development and strategy for the company’s vast portfolio of stations and brands.

In an internal memo shared with Billboard, Entercom CEO David Field said Oliviero’s last day will be July 6 but that he will remain in an advisory role through the end of the year. “Chris has been a key leader over many years at CBS Radio and, more recently, at Entercom,” Field said. “He has made a great impact on the organization.”

Entercom finalized its merger with CBS Radio last November, becoming the No. 2 radio operator in the U.S. behind iHeartRadio.

Though he hasn’t revealed his next endeavor, the NYU graduate did list some possible careers outside of music in his entry for Billboard’s 40 Under 40 list in 2015: “I’d be a priest, a politician or pro-wrestling manager — all jobs that, as a kid, fascinated me.”
