Ella Mai’s ‘Boo’d Up’ Sets Record For Most Weeks at No. 1 Among Women On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart

Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” breaks the record for the most weeks at No. 1 of any song by a woman on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as it captures a 16th week in the top slot on the chart dated Oct. 6. The song surpasses the 15-week stay of Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You” in 2006.

With 16 weeks at the helm, “Boo’d” leapfrogs the runs of Blige’s “You” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” from 2015-16, to claim sole possession of second place among the longest-running No. 1s of all time on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Only Miguel’s “Adorn,” which clocked an unprecedented 23-week domination in 2012-13, has posted a longer reign.

As “Boo’d” snatches the silver medal, here’s an updated rundown of the leaderboard for songs with the most weeks atop R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay since the chart began in 1992:

“Boo’d” traces its outstanding longevity to its simultaneous popularity on both adult-leaning and mainstream-oriented R&B stations. The single slips to No. 2 on the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart after a 13-week run at No. 1, while it previously ruled the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay tally for two weeks. Though no challenger has overthrown “Boo’d” on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay in the past four months, Mai may face the stiffest competition from her own new single, “Trip.” The tune inches closer to the top spot as it steps 5-4 and claims a 9 percent boost to 22.7 million in format audience.

Both “Boo’d” and “Trip” will appear on Mai’s eponymous debut full-length album, due Oct. 12.
