Ani, “Confession”

Guatemala-born, Maui-raised and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Ani (full name Ani Hesse) cruises 40-33 on Dance Club Songs with “Confession.” In just the song’s second chart week, the 19-year-old, who plays piano, guitar and drums, equals the peak of her first charted title, “Dance the Night Away” (July 2018). “Confession,” Ani’s second Billboard chart appearance, was remixed by DJ Chris Z, Dirty Disco and Twisted Dee & Diego Fernandez, among others.

“My inspiration for ‘Confession’ was born on the dance floor,” Ani tells Billboard. “In fact, the idea for it was conceived one night at The Abbey in West Hollywood, when I was out with my producer, Robert Eibach. I love dancing, and the beat of the music. We are all innocent throughout the week, working or at school, but when we go clubbing, it’s about the energy we get from music, and sharing that moment, it refuels us. Robert and I captured my experience at the clubs perfectly in this song when we put pen to paper. No commitment, no rules…let’s just have some fun!”

Svdden Death, Voyd: 1.5

Los Angeles-based dubstep producer Svdden Death (real name Danny Howland) scores its first Billboard top 10, debuting at No. 8 on the Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart with Voyd: 1.5. The set follows the EP Voyd: I (No. 11, August 2018) and Svdden Death’s collaboration with Marshmello earlier this year, “Sell Out,” which reached No. 36 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in March.
