Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s collaboration “I Don’t Care” is settling in for a second week at the U.K. singles chart summit, while Lewis Capaldi has taken a huge lead in the race to the albums crown.
Capaldi’s debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent (EMI) leads the midweek sales chart by an impressive margin, according to charts compiler the OCC, and may yet be the fastest-selling album of the year so far.
With four days of sales and streams to be tallied in this chart week, the Scot’s LP is roughly 10,000 combined sales behind the first-week total of the current title holder, Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next (Republic). It’s already claimed a handful of records. With 55,575 combined sales across the weekend, Divinely Uninspired is the fastest fastest-selling debut album of 2019 thus far, eclipsing Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (Interscope), the OCC reports.
And, based on just three days of activity, Capaldi has snagged the year’s biggest week of digital downloads, besting Pink’s latest set Hurts 2B Human (RCA).
Three songs from Divinely Uninspired are impacting the top 10 on the Official Chart Update, including “Someone You Loved,” a former singles chart champion.
Capaldi leads an all-new top 5 at the halfway stage, with The National’s I Am Easy To Find (at No. 2 via 4AD), Rammstein’s self-titled set (No. 3 via Spinefarm), Tyler, the Creator’s Igor (No. 4 via Columbia) and DJ Khaled’s Father of Asahd (No. 5 via Black Butter/We The Best) starting high on the sales flash.
Meanwhile, Sheeran and Bieber’s hit ”I Don’t Care” (Asylum) blasted to No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart last week and it’s likely to stay there for another week, at least. “I Don’t Care” is currently 6,000 combined sales ahead of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” (Lil Nas X), which is unmoved at No. 2.
