Ed Sheeran Continues Chart Streak Down Under
Sheeran holds down Nos. 1 and 2 on the ARIA Singles Chart for a sixth week.
Bruce Springsteen might well be touring the country, but Ed Sheeran is still the boss of Australia’s singles chart.
For the sixth consecutive week, Sheeran holds down Nos. 1 and 2 on the ARIA Singles Chart with “Shape Of You” and “Castle On The Hill,” respectively (both via Asylum/Warner), and they retain the 1-2 stranglehold on the ARIA Streaming Singles Chart.
Zayn & Taylor Swift’s 50 Shades Darker tune “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” (Republic/Universal) rises 4-3 in its tenth week on the main chart while Katy Perry has this round’s top debut with “Chained To The Rhythm” (Capitol/EMI), featuring Skip Marley, which opens at No. 4. Perry performed her new song at the 2017 Grammy Awards, which aired Down Under Feb. 13 on the Foxtel pay-TV platform.
The Chainsmokers’ “Paris” (Columbia/Sony) completes the national top 5.
On the ARIA Albums Chart this week, Fifty Shades Darker (Universal) leads a top five dominated by debutants and classics. The soundtrack to the second installment in the Fifty Shades franchise features “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” and starts at No. 1, equaling the chart peak for the soundtrack to the first film in the trilogy.
Aussie hip-hop outfit Thundamentals score a career-best chart placing for their fourth studio set, Everyone We Know (Island/Universal). It’s new at No. 2, while the U.K.’s best-selling album this week, Rag’N’Bone Man’s Human (Columbia/Sony), starts at No. 3 in Australia.
Adele’s five Grammy wins power gains for all three of her albums. Her nine-times platinum certified 25 (XL/Inertia) is up 7-4, 21 lifts 38-28, and 19 reenters the chart at No. 50.
Guns N’ Roses’ enjoy chart spikes as the rock veterans make their way around the market for a stadium tour of the five biggest cities. GNR’s Greatest Hits (Geffen/Universal) rises 10-5 in its 112th week on the chart and Appetite For Destruction improves 40-19.
Beyonce’s appearance at the 2017 Grammys, where she performed and won two awards, generates chart fizz for her 2016 album Lemonade (Columbia/Sony). The former chart-topper soars 42-12 in its 36th week on the survey.
And finally, as he winds his way around the country for another stadium tour, Bruce Springsteen has two albums in top 50: Chapter and Verse (No. 21) and Greatest Hits (No. 38, both via Columbia/Sony).
