Dropkick Murphys and Rancid will once again hit the road together for their Boston to Berkeley II tour beginning in May. The two groups last played together in 2017 and will welcome special guests Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon and Boston musician Jesse Ahern supporting on select dates.
Each night will culminate with Dropkick Murphys and Rancid on stage together for a joint encore. As was the case on the original From Boston to Berkeley run in 2017, Dropkick Murphys and Rancid will alternate who plays first.
“We’re excited to team up with our old friends Rancid again for the second edition of the Boston to Berkeley tour! And we’ll be joined by Glasgow, Scotland superstar Gerry Cinnamon — on his first U.S. tour!” said Dropkick Murphys founder Ken Casey.
The tour will kick off at Virginia Credit Union LIVE! in Richmond, Virginia, on May 4 and run through Atlanta, Nashville, Houston, Austin and more. The 15-date co-headlining trek will conclude on May 24 at Artpark in Lewiston, New York.
Both bands will also perform at festivals throughout May with sets at Epicenter in New Jersey, Welcome to Rockville in Florida and Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival in Ohio.
“Looking forward to getting out with the Dropkick Murphys again for the second edition of our Boston To Berkeley tour in May…. This is one you won’t wanna miss,” said Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen in a release.
Rancid and Dropkick Murphys have a long history together. Back in 1997, Rancid’s Frederiksen came across a copy of Dropkick Murphys’ original EP, Boys on the Docks, at a friend’s house. He turned it over to his bandmate and Hellcat Records president Tim Armstrong, who snatched up the band for his new label.
Tickets are on sale now for the May dates. Check out the dates below, as well as the tour announcement video.
