Drake’s Scorpion is likely to notch a fourth straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, according to industry forecasters. The set could earn over 180,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 26, which should easily secure it the No. 1 slot on next week’s tally.
If Scorpion holds on for a fourth week, it will claim the most weeks at No. 1 in 2018.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the Aug. 4-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Scorpion will perhaps scoop up a fourth week at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, July 29.
Assuming Scorpion secures a fourth week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, it will garner the most weeks atop the chart for an album in 2018. At the present, with three chart-topping frames, Scorpion is tied with Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys and the Black Panther: The Album soundtrack.
The last album to claim four weeks at No. 1 was Taylor Swift’s reputation, which collected four nonconsecutive weeks: three in a row from Dec. 2-16, 2017, and then one more on Jan. 6, 2018.
Scorpion will lead a fairly quiet top 10 next week, as no albums will likely debut in the region. However, it is expected that the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again soundtrack will vault into the top 10 with around 40,000 units, up over 100 percent from its No. 20 debut a week earlier with 19,000 units (according to Nielsen Music). The set is basking in the glow of the hit movie’s release in theaters on July 20, the first day of the tracking week reflected in the upcoming Billboard 200.
