Drake’s ‘More Life’ Set for 3rd Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200, Kodak Black & Mastodon Heading for Top 10 Debuts

Drake’s More Life should easily log a third straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, according to industry forecasters. Those in the know suggest the album may earn another 130,000 to 135,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 6. The bulk of that figure will be driven by streams of songs on the set, as the album continues to rack up record-breaking streaming figures.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new April 22-dated Billboard 200 chart (where More Life will likely be No. 1 for a third week) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, April 9.
Rapper Kodak Black, fueled by the success of “Tunnel Vision” (his first top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100), could debut in the top five of the Billboard 200 with his debut studio album Painting Pictures. The set, which includes “Tunnel Vision,” could earn around 40,000 units.
Elsewhere in the top 10, rock band Mastodon may score its third top 10 effort with Emperor of Sand. It could bow with perhaps 30,000 to 35,000 units. The group previously hit the top 10 with Once More ‘Round the Sun (No. 6 in 2014) and The Hunter (No. 10 in 2011).
Outside next week’s top 10, watch for big gains from artists that were featured on the Academy of Country Music Awards, including Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert.
Following the awards show’s April 2 broadcast on CBS, Urban’s Ripcord and Lambert’s The Weight of These Wings could both return to the top 20. Ripcord could notch a gain of over 60 percent to perhaps 27,000 units or so. (The album was No. 25 in the past week, with 16,000 units). As for Lambert, her set could zoom from No. 192 to the top 20, with a gain of maybe 530 percent (rising from 4,000 units to 26,000 or so). On the show, Urban performed his current Ripcord single “The Fighter” with Carrie Underwood, while Lambert sang “Tin Man” from her Weight album.
