Drake & Lil Baby’s ‘Girls’ Is No. 1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart

For a record-extending 41st occasion, Drake adds a new No. 1 on the chart.

For a record-extending 41st occasion, Drake adds a new No. 1 to his account on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, as “Girls Want Girls,” featuring Lil Baby, moves into the penthouse on the list dated Dec. 4.

“Girls” extends Drake’s record total and increases the distance between himself and his nearest competitor, Lil Wayne (20), for the most No. 1s since the list began in 1992. The new champ is also the superstar’s third leader this year, following a featured turn on Yung Bleu’s “You’re Mines Still,” a three-week victor in March – April, and “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring Future and Young Thug,” which posted two frames on top in October.

Featured artist Lil Baby, meanwhile, collects his sixth No. 1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. Half of the sum has come in 2021. The first, a featured role on Pop Smoke’s “For the Night,” which also featured DaBaby, ruled for four weeks in January – February, with his own “On Me,” leading for one week in April.

The collaborative single ascends to No. 1 with a 3% boost in plays in the week ending Nov. 27, according to MRC Data, and becomes the most-played song at U.S. monitored mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations. The track dethrones Wizkid’s “Essence,” featuring Tems, the dominant song of the past few months, with 10 nonconsecutive weeks in charge.

In addition to its latest airplay coronation, “Girls” wins a second term for the No. 1 spot on Rap Airplay, where it improved 4% in audience impressions in the week ending Nov. 27. It also repeats at No. 2 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, which measures audience impressions for songs played on R&B/hip-hop stations. “Girls” increased 5% in audience to 19.1 million for the week and sets itself as the latest challenger for “Essence,” now in its 14th week on top. The latter declined 3% in audience, but still held a commanding 29.8 million figure in audience impressions.

“Girls” is the second single from Drake’s 2021 LP, Certified Lover Boy. The set, released in September, debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with what was then the year’s biggest week (now in third place, behind Adele’s 30 and Taylor Swift’s Red [Taylor’s Version]).
