Dr. Luke’s legal team has hit back at Kesha’s allegations that the producer sexually assaulted her by issuing a lengthy denial and by sharing a flood of emails from people close to the matter which they claim absolves him of any wrongdoing.
A statement posted Thursday, legal reps for Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) categorically rebuke Kesha’s complaint, filed in 2014, and explores published articles, and recollections from family and friends for evidence of contradiction.
The statement paints a vastly difference account of the alleged incident in 2005, and is accompanied with various heavily redacted memos from people with apparent knowledge of the matter.
In one section of the document headlined, “This is the true story Kesha did not want you to know,” the paperwork claims, in 2012, “when Dr. Luke did not agree to her contract terms, Kesha maliciously plotted to destroy Dr. Luke’s business and reputation to pressure him to give in.”
The statement describes the complaint as “meritless” and “bogus” and goes on to offer proof their client didn’t rape her. A version of events dating back to the night of Oct. 5, 2005 reads, “As an act of kindness and to help Kesha, since Kesha had just vomited and was intoxicated, he escorted her out and offered to allow her to sleep in his hotel suite, which was only a few blocks away. Kesha slept on the bed in the hotel suite, while Dr. Luke separately slept on the couch. Dr. Luke testified, under oath and in great detail, that he did not have any sexual or physical contact with Kesha.”
The latest document also breaks out such themes as, “Kesha used to tell the truth about what happened on this night” and “The truth about Katy Perry that Kesha didn’t want you to know….”
It concludes, “There is nothing worse than abuse and sexual assault. Dr. Luke supports any woman or man who seeks to address sexual abuse in the legal system. That is not what happened here. It is also horrendous to falsely accuse someone of a heinous act. That is what has happened here. Kesha’s voluntarily dismissed rape claim has caused great harm to Dr. Luke, his family, and his businesses.”
For allegedly smearing Dr. Luke in dozens of statements, Kesha is facing the prospect of paying an estimated $40 million in damages. As previously reported, that could go a different way if the judge puts the dispute in a jury’s hands and doesn’t wrap up the case on summary judgment. Kesha isn’t backing down from her allegation of being raped.
More to come.
