A lawyer for Patrisha McLean says the legal papers filed Thursday cite “adultery, cruel and abusive treatment, and irreconcilable differences.”
The couple have been married for 30 years.
Camden resident Don McLean was arrested in January on charges including domestic violence assault. He has pleaded not guilty.
He has been prohibited from having contact with his wife. A statement from Patrisha McLean’s attorney, Gene Libby, says she’s gained “strength and insight away from his influence and control.”
After his arrest, McLean made a statement in six tweets, explaining the situation as the fallout of the “breakdown of an almost 30-year marriage.”
“There are no winners and losers but I am not a villain,” he wrote. He ended by asking that he not be “judged in this frantic media environment.”
Don McLean’s defense attorney confirmed the divorce filing. A lawyer he retained to handle the divorce proceedings wasn’t immediately available for comment.
